Hello
I am
the third owner of the longstanding Frame House which was created by Larry
Blumenthal in 1969. Originally it was located on Montgomery Avenue here in
Elkins Park. In 1990 Larry passed it down to his apprentice Karen Shain
Schloss who expanded it beyond just framing to include her Calligraphy and Art
Work. In January of 2000, having apprenticed with Karen for four years, I
bought The Frame House, and we moved to our location on High School Road to
become two businesses, The Frame House and Calligraphics Gallery. My goal
was to expand The Frame House further and include a small gallery space for
local artists to show their work. I was trained as an artist a long time
ago, receiving a masters degree in printmaking and art education. Over
time, I put those works “under the bed” to raise my wonderful boys. It was
that need to bring back the art work once again which inspired me to show local
artists who may have put aside their creations to raise their families as
well. Since then, each month we have had different artists display their
artwork, including painting, sculpture, photography, and fiber art. My
shop has expanded beyond the everyday production of distinctive and archival
framing, into a gathering place for friends and family and those who appreciate
the great creativity in this community. I create solutions for the
complicated and intricate as well as for the small and simple, from antique
collectibles, to childrens’ art, photographs, diplomas, and memorabilia, to even
a deep shadow box for a signed guitar! I welcome the opportunity to frame
your most precious keepsakes, or just to visit and view the art.
